Book Review: "Wicked: the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West"

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you’re expecting the same vibe in the book as the Musical, you’re in for a big surprise. The book is much darker and delves into much more sinister social issues like slavery, genocide, and religion. The theme of the book is what is truly good and what is wicked? Is Elphaba (later the Witch of the West) truly wicked, or is the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz? I don’t think I could ever watch “The Wizard of Oz” again and not have the themes of this book running through my mind. The book was hard to get into at first, but after the first chapter or so I was hooked.
